Mommy Minute: Setting healthy boundaries

If your house was robbed, the legal system will ONLY protect you if there was proof of forced entry but if your house was unlocked then there is no protection and insurance will not cover what was lost.  SO, my question to you is what doors are you leaving unlocked in your life? Do you value yourself enough to lock some doors when necessary? Here are a few ideas that have helped me a long the way.

1.  Keeping people at a distance may feel unkind but it's really not.  While going through a divorce I have had people keep ME at a distance and honestly I understand why they did it.  They are still my friends but they weren't the ones capable of helping me at the time.  I get it.  I understand that successful, happy people know that setting limits is essential for keeping their sanity.  It's something we all must do.

2.  Listening to motivational PodCasts. Here are a few podcasts that really motivate and inspire me.

Jeff Sanders 5am miracle. Jeff is so inspiring and enthusiastic.  Even if this podcast doesn't make you JUMP out of bed at 5am, you can still benefit from his awesome productivity tips, great interviews, and ideas that will make you question what you can do better in your life.

This is your life. Michael Hyatt is such an amazing speaker and coach.  He has lived a life of tremendous success and he shares all his tips for happiness, fulfillment, and success.  I really love this guy!

Kick Ass Dad.  Michael Mataluni is an amazing Dad with some great ideas and questions to make you think about you life, parenting, and your family.  He offers a wide variety of interviews with thought provoking questions and answers.

3.  Assess your social media involvement.  Who are you following on social media and how do they make you feel?  If some posts really make you feel down, it may be time to unfollow someone for a little while (they will never know).

Now it's your turn!! Tell me how you create healthy boundaries in your life?  Also, I would love to hear what podcasts you love in the comments below!

C'mon Kate...wear underwear

Dear Kate,
OK...I admit it...
I goggled (and found) the pictures of your tush while you were walking out of a helicopter last weekend and I have this to say....

We need to talk.

I love you.  Seriously I do.  You are one of the few celebrities that I follow and adore.  I believe you are one of the greatest fashion icons in recent decades this century. I love your style and I was obsessed with your wedding a few years back.  I remember DVRing the whole wedding and even hosted a tea party and went crazy with fun treats and hats for all the ladies and my daughter.  I remember the excitement...it was like reliving my own wedding! I've always liked your sophistication and classy style (and still do!)
HOWEVER...
When I heard about your wardrobe malfunction, I have to admit, I was disappointed!  OK, I realize that wardrobe malfunctions can happen.
We all remember Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction on live t.v (which left us gasping and wondering if it was on purpose).

Apparently, even your mother in law, Princess Di accidentally wore a see through skirt in the 80's..

and Paris Hilton had a wardrobe malfunction (and of course she wasn't wearing any underwear) but Kate Middleton, I have to say, I'm a little disappointed.
I'm glad that you will now have a 24 hour 'panty protector' bodyguard (true story..how many men would love to have that job?!)
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you may have been wearing a thong or maybe you were worried about panty lines (I've been there) but as a Princess...a mom...and someone who knows she will be near a helicopter...
C'mon Kate.  Wear underwear.

Love,
Toni

What has helped me get through my divorce

1.  Set healthy boundaries.  I can't say it enough.  When you are going through a divorce (or a challenging time in your life) PLEASE limit time spent with people who don't share your values and make you happy.  When you're going through a divorce, you become a MAGNET for other people going through challenging times. TAKE CAUTION!  You can only give what you receive and if you aren't receiving a lot of love, support, and positive energy then you are going to go down.  If you have family members that are also going through a challenging time, it's ok to limit your time spent with them.  I'm sure there will be a time when you have more to give but right now you need all the energy you can muster.  If there are people you follow on Facebook that are always complaining, just unfollow them-they will never know.  This kind of negativity can emotional drain you and cause you to lose track of what you're trying to accomplish in your life.

2.  Gain a NO EXCUSES approach.  Start taking responsibility of your life.  If you aren't happy, find out why.  See a therapist (a good one) and start taking control over the life you create.  Everyone has challenging days but if the same challenges keep coming up maybe it's time to take a new approach.

3.  Get sleep.  Divorce is exhausting.  If you are working 5 jobs and find yourself exhausted, try to really think about how you can use your time more effectively or maybe find ONE job that pays better.  Sleep is important.

4.  Maintain HEALTHY habits.  Your body needs all the help it can get right now and if you're putting crap in it and not exercising, don't expect much in return.  Start today by eating things that are green and limiting alcohol/caffeine intake.  Remember all these little choices we make can have a big impact on our lives.
